I've Been to Long Island, New York

I have been able to take a vacation over the last week. I had a fabulous time and thought I would share some of those photos with you. The first day there, my brother and his wife took me to the beach. For those who live near me and know me, they KNOW I miss the beach. If they forget I miss the beach, they will be reminded, as I think I talk about it alot. They are true friends to stick by me, when I start on about missing the beach. LOL!

We went to Fire Island. It is off the south shore of Long Island. The beach is actually run by the state of New York as a state park. The ocean was in a strange state that day. The waves were much smaller than normal, there was a ton of seaweed floating around which is not normal and the undertow was stronger than normal. We decided not to go in the water, much to our disappointment, but we decided not to disturb the huge amount of seaweed or get tangled in it and went in only to our knees. Last weekend was the last weekend for the lifeguards to be on duty. The guy sitting in the tall chair, below, is a lifeguard.
We decided to take a walk from the beach to the Fire Island Lighthouse. It was built in 1858. This is actually the second lighthouse, the first one was torn down and they used some of its bricks in building the second one.

The bush in the picture of JoJo hanging in the fence is actually a pine tree with her in the foreground, but the winds off the ocean have caused the tree to permanently bend.

Next is my brother, he didn't know he was in the shot. :) But, we are getting closer to the lighthouse.

Closer still. You cannot tell from the photo's but the lighthouse structure itself, is built of stones, the size of cement blocks.

The last shot is taken from under the lighthouse. Notice the size of the American Flag near the base.

Premio Meme Award

Well, a couple of weeks ago, I was awarded this Meme award. As things would go, I forgot. Hahaha!

I am supposed to tell you 7 facts about myself. I want to be very creative doing this, too.

1. I have great friends. The friend who awarded this to me lives in Minnesota. As a matter of fact, I used to live in Mankato, Minnesota, with my hubby. Our daughters were born there. Those were the college days.

2. I have been married for almost 36 years, to the same guy. Here he is
wearing a vest that I made for him, from my handspun yarn.

3. I grew up in New York, on Long Island. This is a view of
a water fall, near my Mom's home. So you know, not all of NY is New York city. :)

4. I miss the beach. The picture of the bridge is one of the bridges, actually there are 2 bridges, next to each other. One takes you to the beach and the other you drive home on. The funny looking boat, is a clammer. You see, some of people on the coast of LI make a living clamming and fishing.

5. When I was little, I loved dolls. Actually, I still love dolls. :) I use one for my avatar(picture) on etsy and Ravelry. My brother gave this doll to me and I still have it. Bet he didn't know that. See that tinsel? Well, we used to put that on strand by strand. Then when Christmas was over we took it off strand by strand, laid it flat and saved it. Boy, was I excited when they invented garland for Christmas trees! We had gorgeous trees each year. My dad loved getting real trees and loved all the fun lights for them.

6. I have two brothers. Here we are all three of us kids, with my Mom. We gave her a great birthday party several years ago.

AND number 7.
I LOVE TO KNIT and create knitting patterns and spin. But, that is not new to you. :)
Here are two new patterns. The Cowl is out on Ravelry and in my etsy shop
The hat is almost ready to publish, just need to read through it a couple of more times. Both items use bulky weight yarn and are quick knits. Great for gifts.

So, now I pass this on to others with blogs. How about Cary, Liz, Kimberly, and Cindy and if anyone else want to join it, let me know.

Stitch-n-Pitch

I really do enjoy baseball. I don't get to see a lot of baseball, but I like to when I can. Now, I am not an avid watcher, mainly because my all time favorite team is the New York Mets. They don't play the Texas Rangers, however, so their games are not shown on my TV. Oh, I have a TV antenna, and don't have sports channels to be able to see games. I see only the games that are shown locally.

Once in a while I will be seen watching a Rangers game. I will root for them, because they don't play the Mets.

There is an organization that gets knitters and crocheters together to meet at baseball games to not only watch the game, but to work on their projects at the same time. Here is a video of one such game. Showing, of course, the NY Mets! :)
